This article reviews some of the most widely applied community-based vulnerability and adaptation tools. Criteria for tool selection included identifying tools that have been developed by both development and conservation organizations, tools applied in different geographies, and tools designed to address different overarching objectives: poverty reduction, disaster risk reduction, natural resource management, and alternative livelihoods
